Iran is prepared to restart atomic discussions with the United States on condition that it is handled with "dignity" and "respect", Tehran's top diplomat has declared.

Abbas Araghchi said exclusively dialogue was effective, and disclosed new appeals had been made by mediators to resume talks with the US government. He claimed Iran had zero unreported enrichment locations, and Tehran had not yet reached a point to authorize the UN nuclear inspectorate to access bombed nuclear sites for security reasons.

Walking a Difficult Path

Araghchi is treading a complex path since Iran wishes not to be seen to be operating from a position of disadvantage, and he emphatically stated that Iran had come out more powerful militarily and emotionally from the Israeli-US attack on its enrichment centers in June.

He was speaking at a security conference in Tehran where he reiterated that Iran had "an absolute privilege to enrich uranium on home soil that it will perpetually retain" – the key factor of the deadlock in the previous talks.

Prior Talks Abruptly Terminated

The previous five rounds of talks between the United States and Iran were concluded unexpectedly and acrimonious termination on 12 June when the Israeli government, with American backing, attacked Iranian nuclear sites in a fortnight-long engagement that culminated with the American leader claiming the facilities had been obliterated. Following this, Western states used their authority to reimpose global restrictions, but Iran maintains they have not had a major impact.
