The artist has donated the entirety of his £25k award winnings to the trust for venues, which works to save the Britain's small concert spaces.

He was presented with the prize on mid-October as his new release his work was declared the outstanding release of the previous year.

Fender has chosen to give the cash to the trust, in recognition of the vital role small stages had in his beginning days.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it weren't for all the shows I played around the region, and beyond, when I was just getting going," remarked Fender. "These spaces are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these venues have permanently closed – roughly 16 percent of the total UK scene.

Recently, well-known musicians like Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by including a small levy to their admission fees, which benefits independent venues.

Fender also joined in, raising over £100k on his 2024 arena tour to help numerous small stages across the UK.

These funds assisted spaces that were facing possible closure due to issues stemming from water damage, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as permit problems, court cases and noise complaints.

Other venues were granted funding support in improving facilities and sound and lighting systems that helped artists and audiences.

"The idea that money from concerts in major spaces backs the local stages, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has commented.

The musician is among several artists to donate his award funds to good deeds.

Back when the band received the award in the mid-90s for their album their work, vocalist Jarvis Cocker announced that the act would give their cash to the non-profit the charity.

During 2002, musician Ms Dynamite divided her bounty among several charities, including the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"Additionally, I contributed a £1,000 to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked better apparatus," she shared with the media.

In recent years, they donated their prize money to the local youth club that developed their band, in addition to other independent music bodies.

And the 1994 recipients M People contributed their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was identified with the disease.

"Receiving the award was ample," said artist Small. "The money was the cherry on top but we didn't need the extra, because we had the honor. So our victory affected another person's life."

Recently, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had saved two local spots in that region, by bringing them into public stewardship.

One venue in Southampton and the other in that location were acquired under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is backed by a national body and enthusiasts who purchase "ownership units" in the venues.
