Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
In the teaser shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
